Blog: New Make-X improvements and Low-Level Combat Changes

New Make-X improvements and Low-Level Combat Changes

For everyone who does not know what this update is here is the update:

“Many of the Make-X menus in the game have been redesigned. The new version doesn’t require you to right-click to choose Make-X or Make-All. Also, wherever the new menu offers Make-X, it also offers Make-All, so you won’t have to keep typing the same numbers manually. Some of the newly introduced Make-All options include smelting ores, fletching bows and crossbow stocks, and other such popular skill activities.

We’ve also added a couple of new ranged and magic options for low-level players. Rangers might like to get hold of the new sling weapon, which doesn’t need any ammunition to use, and mages should give the new level 1 Wind Rush spell a try as it only requires air runes to cast – or free with a staff of air equipped. Slings are dropped by creatures in the Lumbridge Catacombs (and Kayle’s bow has instead now become Kayle’s sling).

Finally, a handful of low-level monsters in the free-to-play area – including giant rats, giant spiders and goblins – have been rebalanced to be more interesting for new players to fight, which has been made possible by the changes made to life points earlier this year. They’ll also provide handy target practice for the new slings and spell.

Mod Mark

RuneScape Lead Designer

This update came out on October 12, 2010. Even though the make-x menu redesigns have been made to many right click options in the game, none in demonheim have been redesigned. Many skillers are very happy with this update because with skills like smithing, you no longer have to type in again and again how many bars you would like to smith.

The new sling weapon is meant for very low leveled players. It hits extremely low, and is now the weakest range weapon in the game. For players who have completed the blood feud quest, you should know that Kayle’s sling is slightly more powerful than the normal sling.

The wind rush spell is now the weakest magic spell in the game. Even at a high level it is rare to hit more than 10 damage with this spell. Like all other damaging magic spells this spell can be auto casted. The difference is that when a player wields an air staff this spell will not require any runes. This is leading to many players leaving themselves logged on with a very low magic attack bonus attacking low level monsters. This will cause the creature to not die, and you will still get xp for casting the spell. This way, even if a player is AFK they can make a considerable amount of magic xp over a long period of time. Keep in mind that while a player is AFK they could be accused of being a bot. Jagex did realize this and it is impossible for a player of a higher magic level than 65 to use this spell.

Jagex also updated some of the statistics of low level monsters. Goblins now have 68lp. There is also a new NPC known as the Lumbridge guard fighting gobbling on the east side of the river lum. Giant rats have also gotten a new graphics redesign to make them look more ferocious.

Blog: Gunnar’s Ground Review

Gunnar’s Ground Review

Requirements:
• 5 Crafting
• Chisel (acquired during quest)
As you might already know, Gunnar’s Ground is the new Free to Play quest. Instead of
increasing the number of F2P quests, Gunnar’s Ground has in fact replaced the previous
Romeo and Juliet quest. Its skill requirements have also been vastly upgraded from
Romeo and Juliet: from none… to an impressive 5 Crafting. The storyline is still very
similar to Romeo and Juliet: two lovers who yearn for each other, but their fathers
disapprove and refuse them to get together.
In the case of Gunnar’s Ground, the two star-crossed lovers are Dororan the poetic
Dwarf, and the “fiery” barbarian Gudrun. Gudrun knows that some “outlander” is in
love with her, but her father, the Barbarian Chieftain Gunthor refuses to let her see him.
To start the quest, talk to Dororan the Dwarf, who is sitting on the floor at the eastern
path out of the Barbarian Village. Talk to him, and he will start spouting poetic verses,
which you have to finish. After a while, he will divulge his love for the Barbarian maiden
Gudrun; he will ask you to assist him in winning her heart and the blessing of her father.
First, Dororan will ask you to obtain a pure golden ring from Jeffery, the furnace-
operator in Edgeville (he is in the furnace room then). Dororan will give you a poem to
trade for the ring (Jeffery is experiencing his own love problems as well). Jeffery will
give you the ring, albeit reluctantly and you return back to Dororan. He will ask you to
carve a phrase on the ring: “Gudrun the Fair, Gudrun the Fiery”. If you do not have a
chisel on you, Dororan will provide one. Once you have carved the message, give it to
Gudrun who will be standing in the centre of the village. She’ll be pleased, and say she
desires to be with an outlander, but her husband will not allow it. She will ask you to ask
Dororan if he has an idea on how to persuade Chieftain Gunthor to let them marry.
Return to the Dwarf, and he will try to compose a poem but he cannot finish the
sentences. He will ask you to help him finish them. There will be three lines he needs
you to finish. For all of them, the first list of words he gives you will be random, so
choose any, and Dororan will say it doesn’t sound right. On the second list, the correct
word for the first line of the poem is “stray”, for the second line it is “threat” and for the final third line it is “swept to war”. He will give you the finished poem – called Gunnar’s
Ground. Give it to Gudrun, and there will be a cut scene in which Gudrun will be in the
Chieftain’s hall reading the poem. You and Dororan will be outside, listening. Dororan
will panic, saying it was a stupid idea to write the poem, and you will try to calm him down.
The Barbarians will come out, and say it is Gunthor’s time, not Gunnar’s. There will be
another cut scene, in which Gudrun talks to Dororan. She will fall in love with him, and
due to the poem, Chieftain Gunthor will happily agree to their marriage. He will also say
that Dororan is the new Village poet, and you should visit the lovers in their new house
some time.
Congratualtions, Quest complete!
Rewards:
• 300 Crafting XP, Swanky Boots, and an Antique XP Lamp
Personally, I quite enjoyed this quest: it was quite short, and not too much trouble. I
didn’t quite like it as much as Romeo and Juliet, but that’s because I just got obsessed
with faking my own death using the Cadava Berry portion. Nevertheless, Gunnar’s
Ground was quite fun, and I even got another Dungeoneering level. The rewards are
pretty good for low level players, except the Swanky Boots which are just pointless.
